March 04--Las Vegas Sands is getting a new president for its Strip resorts.
John Caparella, who's been president of the Venetian and Palazzo since 2011, is departing next month, Sands confirmed today. Sands spokesman Ron Reese said Caparella is "leaving to pursue new career opportunities," but he wouldn't elaborate.
Caparella will be replaced by George Markantonis, who was most recently the top executive at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. He starts at the Venetian and Palazzo on March 17, Reese said.
Markantonis has decades of hospitality experience, including 16 years with the Westin hotel and resort chain.
He was once vice president of rooms and, later on, senior vice president of hotel operations at Caesars Palace.
The Sands parent company, headed by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, also controls properties in Pennsylvania, Macau and Singapore.
